October 8 2025 - Let’s eat!
One of my favourite dishes are birria tacos. I love Mexican food because of how spicy and flavourful it is however it’s a shame that there really aren’t that many places in Japan that serves Mexican food. I saw this particular dish all over social media and when I went back home I knew I had to try it!That night I ate 4 plates of theses, each plate containing 6 pieces. I think that was the first time I ate so much….
Anyways! What are Birria Tacos? It’s a shredded meat taco, usually oxtail lamb or beef, with minimal vegetables, some cheese and a side of consume made out of the broth from the meat ,chilies and tomatoes. You then dip the taco into the consume and then eat it. It’s a bit messy but it’s delicious! Its tangy and spicy due to the absurd amount of Mexican chilies used but don’t worry the cheese calms down the strong flavors…well at least I think it does but you should not trust me when I review spicy food since my spice tolerance is very high.
The bad side to this dish is it is very time consuming to make because the meat has to marinate and slow cook for a long time. On top of that a lot of the ingredients are hard to find in Japan unless you go to a South American or Asian supermarket ,which can unfortunately get expensive.
If you have the time to make or get to go somewhere that serves this dish then I highly recommend trying it ! Especially if you’re a meat person or love spicy food, or both! Also it’s quite rich and heavy so eat on an empty stomach!!
This website explains how to make it in simple steps and splits it up well so check it out if you’re interested!Link to recipe
Well, its food, so it's going to be expansive no matter what! I make regular tacos all the time. You can get cheap shells at Gyomu Super. I will have to make this next time. Just for myself, kids hate spicy food.
ReplyDeleteWow, I never new the real name is Birria Tacos xD
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the fictional tacos in Star vs The Forces of Evil, "Britta's Tacos". Now I kind of get the joke HAHA
I love Mexican foods but I don't have the spice tolerance to be able to eat a bunch of it... I wish I had a higher spice tolerance.
ReplyDeleteI also like tacos! I've been to tacos restorant in Takadanobaba, near Shinjuku. I want to try to make it someday
